If you buy a Wacom tablet right now and use fresh new Windows 7 or 8.1 with all updates installed, the Wacom drivers will simply not install. That is why a lot of people are looking for a solution and often give up. We have found how to install the tablet on both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 so read below if you want to know.

Windows 7

If you are a developper you know that this infamous error occurs when mixing 64-bit libraries with 32-bit ones. Not something you would expect out of a shipped product. Wacom? You don’t want us to use your products ?!

Okay let’s buy Window 8.1 Professional and install all Windows updates on it – that will work for sure – we don’t have time for this.

*facepalm*

But don’t despair yet. Although we are not getting any money to do Wacom’s support, here are the solutions we found after hours of frustration, hair pulling and trial n’ error.

Solutions

For Windows 8.1 => Install “Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Update 3”
Make sure it is “2015 – Update 3″. Earlier 2015 redistributables won’t work.

For Windows 7 => Install older Wacom drivers WacomTablet_6.3.15-3.exe (last driver working)

Getting Started

Hardware to buy

• Raspberry Pi 3 from CanaKit or another trusted vendor (be careful there are lots of bad cheaper versions that looks just like good ones)
• Kuman starter kit with sensors, breadboard and wires
• Resistors kit so you make most sensor circuits.

Download and provision a SD card

• Officials instructions from Raspberry for more options and operating systems
• Navigate to https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ then download latest Raspbian zip file
• Download Win32 Disk Imager and install it.
• Launch Win32DiskImager.exe and flash the downloaded Raspbian image to your SD card
  

Run a setup script

I wrote one at https://github.com/olignyf/pisetup

$> git clone https://github.com/olignyf/pisetup
$> cd pisetup
$> chmod +x *.sh
$> ./full.sh
or
$> ./quick.sh # will bypass apt-get upgrade step, not recommended, unless you have done it already.

Note: It will take at least 3+ hours to upgrade all the system packages and setup the Raspberry Pi.

Compiling Node.js

$> wget https://nodejs.org/dist/latest-v6.x/node-v6.10.0.tar.gz
$> tar -xzvf node-v6.10.0.tar.gz
$> cd node-v6.10.0
$> ./configure
$> time make
$> sudo make install
